1. Summary

1) What is SketchUp?

A 3D production tool used by webtoon artists as a general purpose for background production and offer a Paid / free 3D library.

2) What is a 360 degrees panoramic image?


It is an image that expresses all directions of 360 degrees, and ComixV supports 360 degree cartoon production based on it.

3) Why create sketchUp 360 degrees panoramic images?

The 360 degrees picture has the advantage of immersing the reader as if he or she directly entered the space, but there is a problem for the makers that the picture work amount required for the background is several times larger than that of the general cut unit picture..

However, background work using 3D tools such as sketchUp makes it possible to create Comix V’s VR Webtoon with similar or minimal workloads to existing scrolling or cut comics.

2. Installing the V-Ray plug-in in SketchUp

 1.  Install the V-Ray plug-in program

– It offers a paid plug-ins, or 30-day trial version is available for download after registering.


2. If V-Ray is installed normally, you can see the following window in sketch-up.


3. How to make 360 images through V-ray

  1. Select menu 카메라(C) > 카메라 위치 지정(M).
  2. Position the cursor on the center floor and click.
    • The following purple rhombus comes up with a person shape. “면에 구성요소 내 (It means Inside the face)” means to fix the camera position on the face. When you position the cursor at the intersection of the objects you modeled, the phrase “교차점 내(It means Intersection)” appears.
    • If you click on the bottom half of the modeled midpoint, the camera is positioned at eye level.
  3. If you click it, you can see that it changes to an eye-shaped cursor. 
    • Try dragging left and right to adjust the height of the image. If it’s too high or too low, you can hold down the shift key and adjust it with the mouse wheel button.
  4. Run V-Ray.
    • You can click the “Asset Editor” button on the toolbar or select “V-ray> V-ray Render and Options> Asset Editor”.
  5. When the V-ray window pops up, press the Settings button.
  6. Change the camera property, which is the Standard to “VR Spherical Paranoma” Changing the camera with 360 degrees format.
  7. Proceed with additional setup as necessary.
  8. Finally, when you click the rendering (image creation) button, the buffer window opens and rendering starts.
    • *Depending on your computer’s specifications, the image creation time will vary and can take from minutes to tens of minutes.
  9. You can check the progress of the rendering in the Process Window.
    When green reaches 100%, it means that rendering is complete.


  10. You can save the image in png format by clicking the Save button in the buffer window.

Let’s check the image now.


  • Finally, images created in 360-degree format
  • Out-of-window backgrounds that are not modeled separately can be background-composited with Photoshop.

4. How to synthesize a 360-degree background with Photoshop

1. After calling the image with the 360-degree perspective view, it will load the 360-degree image created in the sketch-up with the new layer.

2. Load additional images for the background.
3. Reduce to size. (Because the size is slightly larger than the window, unnecessary parts might cut off.)
4. Adjust the transparency of the layer to ensure that it works well with the image when distorting.
5. According to the surface area of the exploded view will cut into two distinct images.
*The red part is broken, and that part is where the surface distortion occurs in the developed view. It gives distortion to this part.

6. Start distortion using Wrap menu.

  •  “Ctrl + T > Right Click > Wrap”
  • You can use this function to put characters on the background or synthesize various images.

7. Begin the distortion operation to the back grid. If successful, press Enter to reflect.
8. In the same way the rest of one thing to also bent to fit into the grid through the Wrap feature will be a natural connection with the next image.

9. Finally, remove the transparency, save and you will finish the 360 degrees images to the background.
